I recently re-read Halen of Sparta on a whim because I remember enjoying the book so much the first time. I found out that Carosella had written a second book and immediately purchased it. Both books are excellent and I love the way the author makes Helen into such a dynamic character. She is believable, and that is what I like most. Often with historical fiction, or books about women in power, I feel like the women do awkward things and try to fit into awkward roles. Not the case for Helen. She is powerful and does not loose her femininity. I look forward to reading future books from Carosella.

The author does a spell binding job of melding Greek and Egyptian mythology, along with her own vivid imagination, to create this "prequel" to the Trojan War.
Loved this series! A whole new imagining of the old-as-dirt tale. Refreshing, romantic, brutal, suspenseful, innovative, and historically plausible. I am sad I had to finish reading it.
I have never been happier for a different turn of events! I loved it more and more as I read.
Loved this book! It's the second in the Helen of Sparta series, I loved both! The narration alternated so occasionally it was hard to remember who was narrating, but it was great story-telling! I had to do some research on Helen and Greek mythology after reading these books - fascinating!
I am glad I read this second book in the series, to see how the story ended up different from the tales of mythology I read as a child. Very thought provoking.
Loved it!! No, it isn't correct from a mythological point of view...but Helen needed her story told. Students of true mythology might not care for it, but any person who believes in what might be, will love it.
Though not as good as book 1...I still read to the end and enjoyed it. The original gripped me as a page turner and this one felt a bit redundant and more of the same. I will say the author does a great job of dashing your hopes and wishes! Her writing is compelling and makes you think (even though you know the general plot) that there is hope for Helen and then wrenches it away from you.

I did like the creative license taken to wrap up the story.

I'll definitely read more from Amalia Carosella.
